Established in 2001, the hospital has been on a constant journey of expansion. Offering a range of essential wards including Female, Male, Pediatric, Outpatient, and Maternity with a dedicated labor/delivery room, it caters to the diverse healthcare needs of the community.
Within its walls, you’ll find a well-equipped Operation Theater, Counseling Bureau, Emergency Case Department, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Mortuary, X-ray, Ultrasound, and a cutting-edge Dialysis Center. With an impressive daily average of 200-250 outpatients and approximately 300 inpatients, the hospital is a bustling hub of healthcare.
A dedicated team comprising 62 nurses, 13 doctors, and 8 specialists work tirelessly to provide quality care. St. Joseph Hospital also opens its doors to interns, offering opportunities for Physiotherapists, Midwives, Medical and Nursing professionals, Emergency care providers, Internal Medicine and Surgery enthusiasts, Obstetrics and Gynecology practitioners, as well as those from various other healthcare disciplines.
Interns at St. Joseph Hospital not only gain valuable exposure but also have the flexibility to switch between departments, broadening their knowledge during their time in Tanzania. The hospital’s language of communication is both English and Swahili, ensuring a seamless experience for interns from various backgrounds.

The minimum stay is two weeks. Due to visa regulations you can spend a maximum of two years as a volunteer in Tanzania.
